Costas Galiotis is the Director of FORTH/ ICE-HT, Patras, Greece and Professor in the Department of Materials Science of University of Patras. He is also a Visiting (Adjunct) professor in the Department of Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London. He has received his Diploma in Chemistry from the University of Athens in 1977 and his PhD from the University of London in 1982. From 1981 to 1997, he worked as a Research Fellow, Lecturer and then Reader in the Materials Department of Queen Mary University of London. In 1997 he left UK to undertake the position of Research Director at FORTH/ ICE-HT in Patras, Greece and in 2002 was elected as a professor n the Materials Science Department of University of Patras. In 2007 he was elected as a Director of FORTH/ ICE-HT and member of the Executive Council of FORTH. He has over 30 years involvement with materials/ nanomaterials research and has published over 200 contributions in the field, such as journal papers, chapters in books, patents, conference proceedings etc. He has been main co-ordinator/ partner of over 50 research programmes of total value of over 30 MEuro. He has served (2004-2006) as the President of the European Society of Composite Materials and since 1998 is an elected member of its Executive Council. Since 2007 he also serves ex officio as a member of the Board of Directors of the European Centre of Nanostructured Polymers (ECNP). He has organised 2 international conferences and numerous workshops and meetings. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journals of Advanced Composites Letters (since 1993) and the Journal of Nanostructured Polymers and Nanocomposites (since 2005).
