Evangelia PAPADIMITRIOU, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras, Greece. Her research interests involve angiogenesis and tumor growth in vivo and in vitro, focusing on the mechanisms involved, mainly concerning the extracellular matrix, free radicals and growth factors. During the last 10 years she is interested in the biological actions of the growth factor pleiotrophin, emphasizing on its effects on endothelial cells, angiogenesis and tumor growth, its mechanisms of action, identification of its receptor(s), as well as structure-function studies. Finally, she is participating in the evaluation of new compounds for their anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor activity. She  has co-authored 55 peer-reviewed papers, 12 chapters in books and more than 160 abstracts in conference proceedings. She has been Editor (co-editor with emeritus professor M.E. Maragoudakis) of the book “Angiogenesis: Basic Science and Clinical Applications”, 2007, Transworld Research Network and has authored the book (in greek) “Molecular Pharmacology” (Parisianou 2009). She is member of the Editorial Board of the journals “Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery”, “The Open Cancer Journal” and “World Journal of Biological Chemistry” and has served as reviewer in more than 25 scientific journals. Currently, she is leader of a scientific group that consists of 10 graduate and three undergraduate students.
