Biotargeting

The Biomedical and Biotechnological Applications Research Network highlights pharmacotargeting of diseases and the applications of biocompatible materials in Medicine.

The Biomedical and Biotechnological Applications Research Network of University of Patras covers a broad spectrum of continuously evolving research in biomedicine and biotechnology. It focuses on two basic axes of overlapping activities and as a result of this collaboration of the research groups and researchers from 3 Schools (Natural Sciences, Health Sciences and Engineering) and 6 Departments (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Material Science and Mechanical Engineering & Aeronautics) of the University of Patras.

The Principal goals of the Biotargeting network cover 3 directive axes that have diverse activities:

1/ Pharmacotargeting of diseases

1a. Study of the mechanisms underlying the pathobiology of diseases

1b. Search of therapeutic targets and

1c. Biological evaluation of pharmaceutical agents and system’s evolution as well as application of procedures, diagnostic and analytical tools

2/ Application of biocompatible materials in Medicine

2a. Synthesis of Materials and Polymers

2b. In vitro and in vivo evaluation of biocompatibility, immunogenicity and biological properties and

2c Optimization control of drug delivery

3/ Convergence of the above axes via:

3a. Relation of structure-action

3b. Compound re-designing and new compositions

3c. Re-evaluation of their effectiveness
